About Us
My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.
John 15:12
The Rescue Mission of Salt Lake is a faith-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 1972 to help the homeless and Restore Broken Lives. Today, we have grown to five locations along the Wasatch Front from Ogden to the Salt Lake Valley. We are a safe place where those who are homeless can experience the love of Christ and discover a pathway off the streets. Our desire is to see lives changed as people find faith in Christ and strive to reach goals of sobriety, employment, and housing.
Ending Homelessness and Restoring Lives in the name of Jesus Christ
In the early 1970s a small group of Salt Lake-based Christian businessmen regularly drove from Salt Lake to Ogden to serve at the only Christ-centered homeless service provider in the State of Utah – The Ogden Rescue Mission. On one trip, a father and son team, Don and Dan Kramer, invited Kay Nakashima, a friend and fellow Christian businessmen to come along. On the return trip, Kay asked why they drove past homeless people in the Salt Lake area to head north. Kay’s question led to this small group of men along with their families to establish the Rescue Mission of Salt Lake.
The Rescue Mission tries to spotlight the struggles our homeless friends face and our efforts to help them. This month, we want to share the story of Utah’s hidden homeless, caused by skyrocketing housing costs and underemployment along the Wasatch Front.
We are committed to financial stewardship and accountability, as well as demonstrating excellence by being transparent with our finances.
